It’s that time of the year again and I must say I cannot wait until my boys go back to school. They really ate me out of house and home this summer. OMG -_- I feel like I was in the market every other day. But anywhooo…

If you had a chance to read my blog “The Best Way To Use Your Tax Refund” , this is where you would apply your saving but if not and for those who don’t get a tax refund, Here are a few quick tips:

  1. PACE YOURSELF– you don’t have to buy everything at once. Take a few dollars out of each paycheck and start buying item immediately, no later than 30 days before the start of school. Start with the absolutely necessary items. (i.e. 1 pair of shoes, A few uniforms, Book bag etc.). I always wait for the 1st day of school to get a complete list from my sons’ teachers before I get the rest of the school supplies.
  2. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR STATE’S TAX-FREE WEEK– In Maryland this year its Aug 12-Aug 18. You’ll find that you will easily save a couple hundred dollars.

  1. HUMBLE YOURSELF!- We love our kids and we want the absolute best for them but UNDERSTAND the latest fashion/ Name Brand is not always “the best”. Shop wisely! Children grow way too fast to overspend on an outfit that they will mostly like destroy in school. Be smart in your spending. Focus on your long-term goal. At the end of the day, the goal is to set your kids up for a successful life, not just a fashionable school year. Leaving a legacy is the best way to show you care. It might feel good to buy your kids the “best” but if it’s affecting your goals, it’s not worth it?

That’s it for now! #ShortAndSweet
